SKIN TREATMENTS

Cystic Acne

Cystic acne is a severe form of acne that is characterized by large, painful, and deep-rooted cysts or nodules beneath the skin's surface. It is caused by a combination of factors, including excess oil production, clogged pores, bacteria, hormonal imbalances, and inflammation. Cystic acne primarily affects the face but can also occur on the chest, back, and shoulders. It tends to be persistent and can lead to scarring if not treated properly. Treatment options for cystic acne include topical medications containing retinoids or benzoyl peroxide, oral antibiotics, hormonal therapy (such as birth control pills or spironolactone), and isotretinoin (a powerful oral medication). Dermatologists may also perform procedures like corticosteroid injections or drainage of large cysts to alleviate symptoms and promote healing. It is important to seek professional advice for the management of cystic acne to prevent complications and minimize scarring.
