Microneedling that wakes up the scalp and helps treatments work

Dermaroller treatment, or scalp microneedling, uses a device with fine needles to create tiny controlled punctures in the scalp. This triggers the skin's healing response and can help growth-supporting serums, PRP or GFC reach the follicles. Dr. Shilpa R K uses it as part of a planned treatment for thinning hair.

  • Pattern hair thinning

Overview

What is Dermaroller Hair Treatment and who is it for?

Microneedling uses a roller or pen fitted with very fine, sterile needles. As it passes over the scalp, it makes tiny channels in the top layer of skin. The skin responds by releasing growth factors and increasing blood flow to the area. In hair treatment, this response may help wake up follicles that have become thin and weak. The needles are very short, and a numbing cream keeps the procedure comfortable.

The channels also allow topical treatments to be absorbed better. For this reason, dermaroller sessions are often combined with prescribed solutions, PRP, GFC or mesotherapy serums. Studies have shown that microneedling combined with standard hair loss medicine can give better results than medicine alone in some patients with pattern hair loss. Your doctor chooses which product to apply based on your diagnosis.

In-clinic microneedling uses sterile, single-use needles at depths chosen by your doctor, which is safer than rolling at home. It does not help areas that are completely bald, and results take months. Rolling too hard, too often or with blunt needles can irritate the scalp, which is why the schedule is set by your doctor. Dr. Shilpa decides whether it suits your scalp and how often it should be done, and reviews progress with photos.

The procedure

What happens during the treatment?

  1. 1

    Scalp assessment

Dr. Shilpa checks your hair loss pattern and scalp health and decides whether microneedling is a good fit.

  2. 2

    Cleaning and numbing

The scalp is cleaned with antiseptic and a numbing cream is applied to reduce discomfort.

  3. 3

    Microneedling

A sterile roller or pen is passed over the thinning areas in a set pattern. This takes about 15-20 minutes.

  4. 4

    Applying the serum

PRP, GFC or a prescribed solution may be applied right after, while the channels are open, to improve absorption.
