Overview
What is Wrinkle and who is it for?
Botulinum toxin is a purified protein that, in tiny amounts, temporarily blocks the signal from a nerve to a muscle. When it is injected into the muscles that pull the skin into lines, those muscles relax. The skin over them stops folding as deeply, so dynamic wrinkles, the ones that appear with expression, soften. It is one of the most studied cosmetic medicines in dermatology and is a prescription treatment that should only be given by a trained doctor.
It works best on lines caused by movement: the '11' lines between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead lines and crow's feet at the outer corners of the eyes. Deep lines that are visible even when your face is at rest may improve partly, and sometimes need a filler or skin-quality treatment alongside. Botulinum toxin does not add volume, so it will not fill hollows or lift sagging skin on its own.
The effect is temporary. Muscle activity slowly returns over a few months and the lines come back gradually, not suddenly. Many people repeat the treatment two or three times a year. Dr. Shilpa looks at how your face moves, your eyebrow position and your goals before deciding where and how much to inject, because a natural result depends more on placement than on quantity.
The procedure
What happens during the treatment?
- 1
Consultation and face mapping
Dr. Shilpa asks you to frown, raise your brows and smile, then marks the muscles responsible for your lines. She checks your medical history and explains what result is realistic.
- 2
Cleansing and optional numbing
The skin is cleaned. A numbing cream or an ice pack can be used if you are sensitive, though most people manage comfortably without it.
- 3
Precise micro-injections
Using a very fine needle, Dr. Shilpa places small amounts of botulinum toxin into the marked points. The injecting itself usually takes ten minutes or less.
- 4
Review at two weeks
The effect builds over several days. A follow-up around two weeks later lets Dr. Shilpa check symmetry and make a small touch-up if one is needed.
Benefits
What are the benefits?
- Softens expression lines on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes.
- Quick appointment with no recovery time, so you can return to work the same day.
- Doses are adjusted so your face keeps natural movement.
- Regular treatment may slow how deeply lines get etched over time.
- Every injection is given by a qualified dermatologist, not a technician.
Is it right for you?
Botulinum toxin suits adults with lines that form when they make expressions, usually from the late twenties onward. It is not given during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or to people with certain neuromuscular conditions such as myasthenia gravis. Tell Dr. Shilpa about any medicines, previous injections or upcoming events so she can time and plan your treatment safely.
Aftercare
How should you care for your skin afterwards?
- 01Stay upright for 4 hours after the injections.
- 02Do not rub, massage or press the treated areas that day.
- 03Skip the gym, sauna and steam for 24 hours.
- 04Avoid facials, threading and face massages for about a week.
- 05Report any drooping or unevenness at your two-week review.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Most people describe it as a few quick pinches. The needle is very fine and only a small amount of liquid goes in at each point, so the whole injecting part is over in a few minutes. If you are anxious about needles, a numbing cream or ice can be applied first to make it more comfortable.
