Overview
What is Thread Lift and who is it for?
Thread lifts use medical threads made from materials like polydioxanone (PDO), the same material used in dissolvable surgical stitches. They are inserted under the skin through a fine needle or cannula. Some threads have small barbs or cogs that grip the tissue and allow it to be gently repositioned upward. Smooth threads, without barbs, are placed in a mesh pattern to improve skin quality and firmness without a noticeable lift. Dr. Shilpa chooses the thread type for each area.
There are two effects. The first is an immediate mechanical lift from the threads holding tissue in place. The second builds over the following months, as the body forms collagen around the threads while they dissolve. This helps the skin stay firmer even after the threads have gone, which usually takes six to nine months. The lift settles a little in the first few weeks as swelling goes down, so the final look is softer than on day one.
A thread lift works best for mild to moderate sagging in people with reasonable skin quality. It gives a subtle, refreshed lift rather than the result of a surgical facelift, and it is temporary. It is a medical procedure done under local anaesthetic, with a short recovery. Dr. Shilpa may combine threads with fillers or botulinum toxin for a balanced result.
The procedure
What happens during the treatment?
- 1
Consultation and planning
Dr. Shilpa assesses your sagging and skin quality, discusses what lift is realistic, and marks the direction and entry points of the threads.
- 2
Local anaesthetic
The area is cleaned and numbed with local anaesthetic at the entry points and along the thread paths, so you stay awake but comfortable.
- 3
Thread placement
Threads are inserted through a fine needle or cannula under the skin, then gently pulled to lift and secure the tissue. Excess thread is trimmed.
- 4
Recovery and review
You can go home the same day. A review after about two weeks checks how the lift has settled.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
The visible lift usually lasts around 12 to 18 months, though this varies with your skin, age and the type of thread used. The threads themselves dissolve in about six to nine months, but the collagen they help build supports the skin for longer. Many people repeat the procedure for maintenance.
