Overview

What is Pigmentation Treatment and who is it for?

Pigmentation means extra melanin in certain areas of skin. It can follow sun exposure, acne, insect bites, burns, hormonal shifts or irritation from products. Common types include sun spots, freckles, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and melasma. Indian skin produces melanin readily, so even small injuries, pimples or harsh products can leave marks that last for months. Some medicines and hormonal conditions can also cause darkening, which is why a proper history is part of the first visit.

Treatment is chosen by type and depth. Surface pigment often responds to prescription creams and chemical peels, while deeper or stubborn pigment may need laser toning. Daily sunscreen is essential, because sun exposure can undo progress quickly. Results come gradually over weeks, and some types, especially melasma, need maintenance to stay controlled. Dr. Shilpa avoids harsh bleaching agents and strong unsupervised steroid creams, which can thin the skin and cause rebound darkening.

The procedure

What happens during the treatment?

  1. 1

    Pigment assessment

Dr. Shilpa examines the pigmentation, sometimes under magnification, to judge its type and depth.

  2. 2

    Home care

You begin a routine of pigment-reducing creams and sunscreen suited to your skin type.

  3. 3

    Peels or laser

If needed, chemical peels or laser toning sessions are added, spaced a few weeks apart.

  4. 4

    Progress reviews

Photos and follow-ups track improvement, and the plan is adjusted to avoid irritation.

Benefits

What are the benefits?

  • Treatment is matched to the type and depth of pigmentation.
  • Settings and strengths are chosen with Indian skin in mind.
  • Home and clinic treatments work together for steadier results.
  • Progress is tracked with photos at follow-up visits.
  • You learn how to prevent new pigment from forming.

Is it right for you?

This treatment suits adults with dark spots, tanning, acne marks or uneven tone on the face or body. It is less suitable during pregnancy, when only gentle options are used. If you have a spot that is changing in size, shape or colour, have it examined first, since not every dark spot is simple pigmentation.

Aftercare

How should you care for your skin afterwards?

  • 01Apply sunscreen daily and reapply every 2-3 hours outdoors.
  • 02Avoid picking at spots or acne, which causes new marks.
  • 03Do not use bleach, lemon or other home remedies on the skin.
  • 04Avoid active products like scrubs for a few days after peels.
  • 05Continue your home routine between clinic sessions.
