Overview
What is IV Infusions and who is it for?
Glutathione is an antioxidant made naturally by the body. It plays a role in protecting cells from damage, and in the skin it can shift pigment production towards lighter forms of melanin. This is why it is promoted for skin tone. In an IV infusion, glutathione is given directly into a vein, usually with saline and sometimes with vitamin C, under medical supervision.
The evidence for skin lightening with IV glutathione is limited. Studies are small, results are mixed, and any change in tone, if it happens, tends to be modest and fades after the infusions stop. Long-term safety at higher doses has not been well studied. Regulators in some countries have warned against its use purely for skin lightening, and reported side effects range from rashes and stomach upset to rare but serious reactions.
For these reasons, we do not offer it as a skin-lightening treatment and we do not promise any change in skin colour. Your natural skin tone is healthy, and the aim at Nishka is skin that is clear, even and well cared for. If you are interested, Dr. Shilpa will review your health, discuss your goals, and explain whether it is suitable or whether proven options for pigmentation, tanning or dullness would serve you better.
The procedure
What happens during the treatment?
- 1
Medical assessment
Dr. Shilpa takes a full history, including allergies, medicines, kidney or liver issues, asthma and pregnancy, and may ask for blood tests.
- 2
Honest discussion
You talk through what you hope to achieve, what the evidence shows, the possible side effects, and other treatment options.
- 3
Supervised infusion
If suitable, a small cannula is placed in a vein and the infusion runs slowly while you rest, with monitoring throughout.
- 4
Observation and review
You are observed for a short while after the drip. Further sessions, if any, are decided at review.
Benefits
What are the benefits?
- Given only after a doctor has reviewed your health and medicines.
- Administered in a clinic with supervision and monitoring.
- You get a clear explanation of the evidence and the limits.
- Can be considered alongside sun protection and proven skin treatments.
Is it right for you?
IV glutathione is considered only for healthy adults after a medical assessment. It is not given during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or to people with asthma, known allergy to its ingredients, or kidney or liver disease. If your main concern is melasma, pigmentation or tanning, Dr. Shilpa will usually recommend treatments with stronger evidence first.
Aftercare
How should you care for your skin afterwards?
- 01Keep light pressure on the drip site for a few minutes afterwards.
- 02Drink water normally through the day.
- 03Report any rash, breathlessness, stomach upset or unusual symptoms to the clinic.
- 04Continue daily sunscreen, as no infusion replaces sun protection.
- 05Follow the skincare plan Dr. Shilpa gives you for your actual concern.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions
We do not promise any change in skin colour. The evidence for lightening with IV glutathione is limited and mixed. Some people notice a slight change in brightness that fades after stopping, many notice very little. We recommend it only after an assessment, and never as a way to change your natural skin colour.
