Overview
What is Body Polishing and who is it for?
Body polishing is a full-body skin treatment that combines exfoliation, a cleansing or brightening mask, and hydration. Dead skin cells build up faster on the body than many people realise, especially on elbows, knees, the back and upper arms. This leaves the skin rough, dry and less even in tone. Two-wheeler rides, daily commutes in the sun and hard water can make this worse, and regular home scrubbing is often either too harsh or not enough.
In a clinic setting, the exfoliation can be done with a gentle scrub, mild peel ingredients or a microdermabrasion head, depending on your skin. A mask is then applied to calm and even the skin, and the session finishes with a rich moisturiser. Because it is done at a dermatology clinic, existing issues like body acne, bumpy skin on the arms or patchy tanning can be noticed and treated properly.
One session leaves skin smoother straight away. For tanning or uneven tone, a short course works better, as each session removes a little more of the darker surface layer. Results last longer with regular moisturising and sun protection at home. If you are preparing for a wedding, it is worth planning the sessions with Dr. Shilpa a few weeks ahead, so your skin has time to settle and any other concern, such as body acne, can be treated alongside.
The procedure
What happens during the treatment?
- 1
Skin check
Your body skin is checked for sensitivity, acne, rashes or any area that should be avoided, and the products are chosen.
- 2
Exfoliation
A gentle scrub, mild peel or microdermabrasion is used to lift dead skin from the body.
- 3
Mask
A calming or brightening mask is applied and left on for a short time, then removed.
- 4
Hydration
A nourishing moisturiser is massaged in to finish, leaving the skin soft.
Benefits
What are the benefits?
- Removes rough, dry build-up from elbows, knees, back and arms.
- Leaves body skin softer and smoother to touch.
- Can help tanned or patchy skin look more even over a course.
- Products are adjusted for sensitive or acne-prone skin.
- Any body skin concern can be checked by a dermatologist at the same visit.
Is it right for you?
Body polishing suits most people who want smoother, more even body skin, including before weddings, events or holidays. It may be postponed if you have sunburn, open wounds, active eczema, a body rash or infection, or have just waxed. If you have very sensitive skin, a milder exfoliation is used. We will check your skin before starting.
