Overview
What is Lip Blush / Dark Lip Correction and who is it for?
Lip darkening has many causes. Sun exposure, smoking, frequent lip-licking, allergy to lipsticks or toothpaste, some medicines, hormonal changes and genetics can all play a part. Because of this, the first step is always to find the cause. Removing a trigger, such as a lip balm you react to, can make a real difference before any procedure is done. Sometimes dark patches on the lips are linked to a medical condition, which is another reason to have them checked by a dermatologist first.
Depending on the cause, dark lips may be treated with medical creams, gentle peels, or lasers that target excess pigment. These aim to reduce darkness over several sessions. Lip skin is thin and sensitive, so treatments are kept gentle and spaced out to avoid irritation. Results vary from person to person, and good sun protection for the lips, along with stopping any trigger such as smoking, is needed to keep them.
Lip blush is a cosmetic tattoo of the lips. A soft pigment is placed with a fine machine needle to even out colour, define the border and give a natural tint. It can also be used to neutralise darker lips with a suitable corrective shade. It heals over a week or so, softens over the following weeks, and fades with time, so occasional touch-ups are needed. Single-use needles and a careful check for cold sores are part of every session.
