Overview
What is Skin PRP Treatment and who is it for?
Platelets are small cells in the blood best known for clotting. They also release growth factors that tell surrounding tissue to repair and renew. For skin PRP, a small tube of blood is drawn from your arm, much like a routine blood test, and spun in a centrifuge. This separates the platelet-rich plasma from the red cells. The plasma is then delivered into the skin, where the growth factors encourage collagen production and better skin quality.
PRP can be given through tiny injections across the face, or applied during microneedling so it enters through the fine channels the needles create. The second approach is sometimes called a vampire facial. Because the material comes from your own body, allergic reactions are very unlikely. The main temporary effects are redness, mild swelling and occasional small bruises at injection points.
Results are gradual. Skin often looks fresher within a couple of weeks, with texture and fine lines improving further over two to three months as new collagen forms. A course of sessions works better than a single one, and results vary from person to person. Dr. Shilpa may suggest PRP alone or alongside treatments such as peels or lasers, depending on your concerns and how your skin responds.
The procedure
What happens during the treatment?
- 1
Consultation
Dr. Shilpa reviews your skin and medical history, including any blood disorders or blood-thinning medicines, and explains how PRP fits your goals.
- 2
Blood draw and processing
A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm and spun in a centrifuge for several minutes to separate the platelet-rich plasma.
- 3
Numbing
Numbing cream is applied to your face while the PRP is being prepared, so the treatment is more comfortable.
- 4
PRP delivery
The plasma is placed into the skin with fine injections or during microneedling. A calming product is applied afterwards.
Benefits
What are the benefits?
- Uses your own blood, so allergic reactions are very unlikely.

- Can soften fine lines, including around the eyes.
- Improves overall skin tone and texture gradually.
- Works well alongside microneedling, peels and laser treatments.
Is it right for you?
Skin PRP suits adults who want gradual improvement in texture, tone and fine lines using their own biology. It is not suitable for people with low platelet counts or other blood disorders, active skin infection, cancer under treatment, or during pregnancy. Tell Dr. Shilpa if you take blood thinners or painkillers like aspirin, as these may need to be paused.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Numbing cream is applied first, so most people feel mild pricking or pressure rather than pain. The blood draw feels like a routine blood test. Areas over bone, such as the forehead, can feel a little more sensitive. The whole procedure is generally well tolerated.
