Overview
What is Low Level Light Therapy and who is it for?
LLLT, also called red light therapy or photobiomodulation, uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light at low power. The light does not burn or cut. It is thought to boost energy production in follicle cells and improve blood flow in the scalp, which may help follicles stay in the growth phase longer and produce thicker hair. Sessions are calm, and you can rest or read during them.
It works best for early to moderate pattern hair loss in men and women. It cannot regrow hair on completely bald areas. Evidence suggests modest improvement in hair density for many users, and the effect depends on regular sessions over several months. Stopping treatment usually means any benefit gradually fades. Progress is slow, so photos taken every few months are the best way to judge whether it is helping.
Because LLLT is gentle and painless, it is a good add-on for people who want to avoid injections, or who are already using lotions, tablets, PRP or GFC. It is sometimes used after a hair transplant to support the scalp and existing hair, once the surgeon agrees. Dr. Shilpa will tell you whether it makes sense in your plan and how often to come in.
The procedure
What happens during the treatment?
- 1
Assessment
Dr. Shilpa confirms your type of hair loss and decides whether LLLT is a useful addition to your treatment.
- 2
Preparing for the session
Your hair should be clean and free of heavy oil or styling products so the light can reach the scalp.
- 3
Light session
You sit comfortably under the light device for about 15-20 minutes. You may feel slight warmth and nothing else.
- 4
Regular sessions and review
Sessions are repeated on a set schedule, and progress is reviewed with scalp photos every few months.

Is it right for you?
LLLT suits men and women with early to moderate pattern thinning who can commit to regular sessions. It is less useful for advanced baldness. It may not be advised if you have a light-sensitive condition, take medicines that increase light sensitivity, or have certain scalp lesions. Dr. Shilpa will check this before you begin.

- 01There is no special aftercare. You can resume normal activities straight away.
- 02Keep to the session schedule, as gaps reduce the benefit.

- 04Tell your doctor if you start any new medicine that may cause light sensitivity.
