Overview
What is Comedone Extraction and who is it for?
Comedones form when oil and dead skin cells block a hair follicle. If the pore stays open, the plug darkens on contact with air and becomes a blackhead. If it is covered by skin, it stays white or skin-coloured and is called a whitehead. They are the earliest stage of acne and are common on the nose, forehead and chin, particularly in oily skin.
Comedone extraction is a clinic procedure in which the skin is prepared, often softened with a mild peel, and each comedone is gently pressed out with a sterile extractor. This avoids the bruising and infection that come with squeezing at home. Extraction clears existing comedones, but new ones can form, so it works best alongside a prescription routine that keeps pores clear.
The procedure
What happens during the treatment?
- 1
Skin check
Dr. Shilpa examines your skin to confirm comedones and look for active acne that needs separate treatment.
- 2
Cleansing and softening
The skin is cleansed and may be prepared with a light peel to loosen the plugs inside pores.
- 3
Sterile extraction
Each comedone is gently removed with a sterile extractor tool, with care to avoid bruising the skin.
- 4
Soothing and home plan
A calming application finishes the session, and you get a home routine to help keep pores clear.
Benefits
What are the benefits?

- The risk of marks and infection from squeezing at home is avoided.
- Clearing comedones can reduce the chance of new pimples.
- Skin feels smoother and looks more even soon after.

Is it right for you?
Comedone extraction suits teenagers and adults with blackheads or whiteheads, especially on oily or acne-prone skin. If you have many inflamed pimples, those are usually treated first. People with very sensitive skin, active infections or who are on oral isotretinoin should mention this, as extraction may need to be adjusted or postponed.
