Make stretch marks softer, flatter and less noticeable

Stretch marks are a natural result of skin stretching quickly during pregnancy, weight changes, growth spurts or gym training. They are harmless but can make people self-conscious. Dr. Shilpa R K assesses whether your marks are new or older, then uses treatments that help them blend better with the surrounding skin.

  • Marks after pregnancy
  • Marks from weight gain or loss

Overview

What is Stretch Marks Treatment and who is it for?

Stretch marks, or striae, form when the deeper layer of skin is stretched faster than it can adapt, causing collagen and elastic fibres to tear. New marks are usually red, pink or purple and may be slightly raised. Over time they fade to white or silvery lines that feel thin and slightly sunken. Hormones, genetics and steroid use can make them more likely.

Newer, coloured stretch marks usually respond better than older white ones. Treatments include prescription creams, microneedling, PRP, chemical peels and fractional laser, which all work by stimulating new collagen and improving texture and colour. Stretch marks cannot be erased completely, but a series of sessions can make them noticeably softer and less visible. Results depend on the age of the marks, your skin type and how consistently you complete the plan.

The procedure

What happens during the treatment?

  1. 1

    Assessment

Dr. Shilpa looks at the age, colour, depth and location of your stretch marks to choose suitable treatments.

  2. 2

    Preparing the skin

The area is cleansed and a numbing cream is applied before procedures like microneedling or laser.

  3. 3

    Treatment session

Microneedling, PRP, peels or fractional laser are performed over the marked area, depending on your plan.

  4. 4

    Follow-up sessions

Sessions are repeated every few weeks, with progress reviewed and the plan adjusted along the way.
